We fight poverty with love

By providing programs that serve the body, mind and soul, The Salvation Army helps alleviate the symptoms of poverty - and works to address the root issues that cause it.

46.7 million Americans live below the poverty line. 60 million more live one crisis away.

Sadly, children raised in poverty are 32% more likely to remain there than their more fortunate peers.

We are active in every zip code in America to feed, shelter, assist and equip the poor.

Poverty is so often the result of - and the catalyst for - chronic struggles with hunger, addiction, housing insecurity, mental illness, unemployment, educational voids and various forms of abuse. These interconnected struggles continue year after year, and often span generations. That's why The Salvation Army works to meet the needs of the whole person through short and long-term assistance - first alleviating the symptoms of poverty and then addressing the root issues that cause it.

Poverty doesn't have to be permanent. The Salvation Army helps those in need to overcome poverty through a variety of programs.

Shelter
Housing insecurity and prolonged poverty are strongly linked, and that's why we work to provide short and long-term housing assistance to displaced families and individuals. The Salvation Army partners with many local agencies and programs and offer refuge to struggling men, women, children and families - from overnight and emergency shelters for those finding themselves homeless for the first time to transitional living centers that help rebuild lives.

Meal Assistance
Many families and individuals facing poverty often must make the painful choice heating and eating - that is, they must decide whether they'll pay their bills or pay for food. Without sufficient funds, many are forced to go without a warm, nutritious meal in order to keep a roof over their head.

Bill Pay Assistance
We help struggling families and individuals avoid falling into the cycle of crisis by supplementing their income with utility, rent and other vital payments. This assistance often becomes the difference between shelter and eviction, between maintaining honest work and selling drugs or services for money, and between keeping kids in one place and moving them out of their home and onto the streets.

Employment Assistance
As part of our comprehensive approach to helping families and individuals overcome poverty, we can provide links to educational resources, career coaching, and job placement opportunities to assist those in need in securing stable and gainful employment.

Hygiene Center

The Hygiene Center not only provides a shower and laundry experience, but it brings Hope into our neighborhood with an accessible shower equipped with a chair for disabled users. Showers and laundry are available by appointment only. This program gives our community a chance to access essential hygiene services in a dignified and inclusive manner. Offering a shower experience at the Hygiene Center demonstrates a commitment to accessibility and equity. Additionally, providing appointments ensures efficient use of resources and helps manage demand effectively.

Beyond the practical benefits of cleanliness and laundry services, the Hygiene Center contributes to the overall well-being of the community by fostering a sense of hope and belonging. Access to basic hygiene facilities is a fundamental human need, and by addressing this need, the center plays a vital role in supporting the dignity and self-esteem of its patrons.

Moreover, the center serves as a beacon of compassion and support, showing that the community cares about the welfare of all its members, regardless of their circumstances. By creating a welcoming and inclusive space, the Hygiene Center helps combat stigma and isolation, fostering connections and a sense of solidarity among neighbors.

Overall, the Hygiene Center not only meets practical needs but also serves as a symbol of hope, compassion, and community spirit. Through its commitment to accessibility and dignity, it enriches the lives of those it serves and strengthens the fabric of the neighborhood.
